1 Year photos!!

Here they are! YAY!!!

Just a few (or a lot) of my favorites!!!

Rookie of the Year

Let me start by saying this: If you aren't at all interested in Benjamin's 1st birthday, the party, and all of the related photos, you might as well steer clear of my blog for the next week!

So, that being said, my baby turns 1 tomorrow. We are having his birthday party over lunch, and it is sports themed. Benjamin loves throwing things and based on his dad's athletic nature we are sure he will be into many sports over the next many, many years. Which sport will be his favorite will be for him to choose. At the moment, however, he is looking to be a Major League pitcher! So without further ado.... here are the invites to the party where we will celebrate the Rookie of the Year!!

I know they're not marvelous, but I made them and I am proud! And I know my info is on them, but I'm not too worried about anyone trying to crash this party.

That is Benjamin in the picture, with Fredbird, at 6 months! :)

This Rookie even gets his own baseball card! I sent them out with the invitations, but a lot of people didn't find them in the envelope. That was an error on the part of Rookie Mom here, who should have attached them to the invitation some way.

This is the front:

And this is the back:

Benjamin has no clue what's about to happen tomorrow, but I sure am excited!!

If Benjamin was into Social Networking...

Here are some posts he would have had over the past year...

- WAAAAHHHHHHHH!
- I've been crying for 2 hours. Why doesn't this lady get it?!?
- This cute girl named Ava keeps coming over to visit. I think I like the older women.
- I bit my mom just for the fun of it. You should have seen the look on her face! LOL!
- Seriously, you want me to eat that? How about more milk instead.
- Ahhhh - relief at last. This is the first time since I was born that I don't have to have that burning feeling in my throat.
- I have this weird feeling, like something is cutting my gums. Anyone know what that is?
- Got milk?
- You will not believe it. This crazy woman thinks I'm going to sleep in this crib, alone, without being rocked to sleep!
- I think it's cute when my mommy and daddy kiss. :)
- I just got the best Christmas gift ever! A box!!! It had all these colorful, plastic things in it, but once I got those out, the box was amazing!
- If I could just figure out how to run, I know I could shove that dog food in my mouth befor mom catches me!
- Did anyone else's parents dress them up in 8 layers of clothes and try to convince them all this snow was fun?
- Tip to babies: if you don't like what your mom feeds you, throw it on the floor... she won't make you eat it then.
- mom, where are you? I'm tired of the babysitter.
- I love swinging. Swinging's my favorite.
- My paci is missing AGAIN!

That's his thing.

It's cold here. Like really, really, -11 degree cold. Just an hour away they set the record for the lowest temperature in recorded history in the entire state of Oklahoma!

Crazy weather. That is Oklahoma's thing. . You know what i mean by "thing" right? That one part of something or someone that really makes them "them." It could be part of their personality, something they always say or do, or even their sense of style. Oklahoma's thing is crazy weather. I believe our state has the craziest weather in the nation.

Benjamin's thing is throwing things. Rather, throwing everything. Life is almost perfect to Ben. It would probably only be better if everything he threw would roll and/or bounce.

I can't remember my "thing." Although, I can't remember much these days, so maybe my thing is not remembering. Or, forgetting. The other day, my friend, Jesse, said that when she had her daughter she thinks part of her brain came out when she delivered the placenta. That is exactly how I feel!
Anyway, it was cold. So it makes sense that I was looking forward to enjoying a nice hot cup of cocoa. Ben wanted to help, of course! We made hot water, stirred in our mix, topped it off with marshmallows, and it was starting to look delicious. Just as I was about to top it with Reddi Whip, Benjamin grabbed the mug and in two seconds he picked it up and set it down, up and down again, and the third time up he threw it on the floor. No, Ben, mugs don't bounce.

Normally I could have stopped this before it happened. But normally I hold him on the left side so I can do stuff with my right hand. I went to pilates a few weeks ago where I was told my muscles are out of balance because I always hold Ben on the same side. So this day was one of the times I was trying to hold my baby on my right side and do things with my left hand. Well my left side may be stronger, but it is much slower and less coordinated as well. So there was no stopping the disaster at hand.

No, Benjamin, mugs do not bounce. But I'm sure he will try it again if given the opportunity! The mess was cleaned up, and once Ben went down for a nap, I enjoyed a fresh cup of hot cocoa. Invisible Alarm Clock

Our little boy has been waking up at 5:00a.m. for weeks now... Not getting enough sleep, but unable to fall back asleep assisted, unassisted, fed, changed, anything... he's just ready to go at 5:00 on the dot.

I decided there must be an alarm clock going off causing him to wake at this time, so this morning I set my own alarm for 4:45. I woke up and camped out in front of his door, video monitor in hand. At 5:00 exactly, he stirred, rolled around, and went back to sleep! I stayed there until 5:15 then went back to bed but kept watching the monitor. I just KNEW there had to be something that would happen and cause him to wake up. I know I made it til 5:30, when he stirred again, but at some point I drifted off to sleep and awoke then Ben did at 6:05.

Hooray for Ben "sleeping in" until 6:00! (We have been getting up at 5 for 5 weeks now.) But really? The day I wake up at 4:45 is the day you sleep in? Really, Ben? Sheesh! Here's hoping the sleeping in will happen again tomorrow and that I can enjoy it as well! :) For today, I am so happy our little boy will be feeling better rested and more energetic! Thank you, God, for helping him get one more hour of rest!

And... here's to wishing I was in Mexico instead of all this Snow!!

Clappng!

Yay! His hands DO work!! OK that's a little dramatic.... but for a long time, Benjamin was doing so much with his feet that he was not paying much attention to what his hands could do! So I am very excited that a couple weeks ago he suddenly surprised me with this! He actually kept going for a while and I was able to capture it on video to share with anyone who wants to watch!

Yayyyy Ben!

Ohhhhhhh Mexico

As I mentioned in my previous post, our family took a trip to Mexico in the middle of January. It was so nice to get away from the cold, even if just for a few days!

We went swimming in our pool

We played with water toys

We chased balls around the house (Thank you Aunt Carly)

We whale-watched

We shared oranges with Grandma

Cooled off with bottled water

Rode in awful carseats because Mexico's laws are much less strict than ours (We call this the Uncle Jon lap strap... it was a definite must for safety!)

And we had so much fun in the shade and in the sun!

Baby Butts

Quite possibly the cutest thing on Earth: baby bottoms. There's just something so simple, free, and innocent about letting your little one crawl around diaperless. Until they pee on the carpet, anyway. We recently took a family vacation to Mexico where we let Benjamin and his cousin Jackson roam unrestricted for a while.

Free time

There's so little of it now days! All you parents understand what I mean. By the time you have free time, there is a list of other things you have to get done. Then when you get that list finished, you are too wiped to enjoy your free time so you go to bed! Oh well, parenthood is totally worth it!!

So sometimes I choose to use my free time for blogging. I haven't been doing so recently because I have been pouring my free time into Ben's 1st Birthday Party!! Fun stuff!

Here is how I have been preparing:

1. Trying to make cakeballs - complete and utter failure; paying someone else.
2. Picking out plates and napkins, etc - picked out, but I need to order still.
3. Making his invitations - ok, people told me Photoshop was easy to use for creating invitations. Well, I found it pretty difficult. Never-the-less, after watching several tutorials online and messing around with the program for a few hours, I created something fun, but not fabulous.
4. Figuring out decorations - there's really not going to be much decor and I think I'm ok with that.
5. Planning gift bags - I just want to get a few things for the very few kids we are inviting. Mainly just because I think it sounds fun.
6. Picking out Ben's cake-I'm having a really, really hard time with this! I want to go ahead and pay for something super cute for him to smash up, but I'm not a real big fan of the thought of him putting a bunch of nasty trans-fats into his body. Even if it is just for one day. It just seems wrong, but I'm still torn between that and making him a healthier and uglier cake. I've got time to decide.
7. Activities -just trying to round up a few extra toys door the kids to have to play with... Almost done.
8. Guest list - I had a hard time with this too. Do we go all out with 100 people or just invite family? We decided to keep it super small and intimate with just family and 5 of Ben's favorites. :)

I think he will enjoy his day. I can't believe it is just around the corner!! I'll post pics of everything as it gets closer. When I have free time.BlogBooster-The most productive way for mobile blogging. BlogBooster is a multi-service blog editor for iPhone, Android, WebOs and your desktop
